Am I passionate about aviation?

A few days ago, I received a thought-provoking question on my social media that inspired me to write about this topic. The person shared that their passion for aviation isn’t rooted in the plane itself, but in the experience of being up in the clouds and enjoying the views from the cockpit. They also mentioned that their love of travel and the salary involved were key motivators for them. They asked if that meant becoming a pilot is their true passion.

The reality is that people enter aviation for many different reasons. Some are drawn to the plane itself, others are passionate about travel, and some seek the thrill of flying.

Personally, my journey into aviation began at the age of 9, when I attended an international aerobatics airshow in my hometown of Aqaba. To me, it was pure magic. I wasn’t fascinated by the plane as a physical object, but by the idea of it floating in the air. I couldn’t stop thinking about how it was even possible and whether I could one day do the same.

What truly captivated me was understanding the physics behind how the plane stayed airborne, the mechanics of how all the parts worked together, and the incredible feeling of being up in the air. Over time, while assisting my colleagues at flight school with certain topics, I discovered my passion for teaching. That realization made me realize that my focus was shifting more toward instruction, while my interest in aerobatics also continued to grow.

It’s important to note that not being specifically interested in airlines, or not caring much about what type of aircraft you fly, doesn’t make you any less passionate about aviation. Passion comes in many forms, and it’s unique to each individual.
