FlyIAA Sustainability & Innovation Flagship

Portugal anchors the western edge of FlyIAA's European training network, combining a Lisbon-based head office and ground school with flight operations from Ponte de Sor Aerodrome.

The regional head office and ground school are based in Oeiras, one of the most prestigious and well-connected areas of the Lisbon region, while flight training operates from Ponte de Sor Aerodrome (ICAO: LPSO), runway 03/21, approximately 1,800 metres long.

Training Programs

FlyIAA Portugal will offer a full range of EASA-approved pilot training pathways, including:

  • Initial Flight Training
  • Advanced Flight Training
  • EASA Integrated ATPL Programs
  • Modular ATPL Training Pathways
  • Foundation-Level Aviation Theory Training
  • License Conversion Programs to EASA

These programs are designed to prepare students for careers with international airlines through structured academic and operational training.

Training Facilities

Training is delivered across two locations: ground school and academic training at the Lisbon head office, and flight operations at Ponte de Sor Aerodrome. Facilities are being rolled out in phases as the base scales up.

Fleet

Students train on a modern fleet of Diamond aircraft:

  • Diamond DA40 – modern single-engine aircraft equipped with advanced glass cockpit avionics
  • Diamond DA42 – twin-engine aircraft used for multi-engine and advanced training
  • Diamond eDA40 – the next-generation fully electric training aircraft, representing a major step forward in sustainable aviation training

Portugal is also the intended home for the fully electric Diamond eDA40, positioning the base at the forefront of FlyIAA's transition toward low-emission, environmentally responsible flight training.

About Ponte de Sor Aerodrome

Ponte de Sor Aerodrome (ICAO: LPSO) operates a 03/21 runway of approximately 1,800 metres and has rapidly developed into an emerging aerospace and aviation cluster in Portugal, attracting aviation companies, research institutions, and aerospace projects.

Its strategic location, favourable weather conditions, and developing aviation ecosystem make it a strong environment for advanced flight training, complementing FlyIAA's other locations across Europe and the Middle East.

Life in Portugal

Oeiras offers an excellent quality of life, combining coastal living with easy access to Lisbon in a quieter, safer environment. Students can enjoy:

  • The beaches of Oeiras and the Cascais coastline
  • Oeiras Marina and the surrounding waterfront promenade
  • Parque dos Poetas, one of the region's most iconic parks
  • Easy access to Lisbon's culture, dining, and nightlife scene, while living in a quieter and safer environment

Accommodation

Our team provides guidance to help students find suitable accommodation near the academy; housing is not provided directly by the academy.

A Sustainability & Innovation Flagship

Alongside its conventional DA40/DA42 training, Portugal is positioned as FlyIAA's sustainability and innovation flagship — the intended home for AI-assisted training modules and early exploration of drone and eVTOL programmes as these technologies mature.
